This week the Accent Truss team had the pleasure of hosting a field trip at our shop for 15 students from the Academy for Career Excellence. This was a great opportunity to expose these aspiring young people to the top end of carpentry. We gave them a overview in how we bring a project to fruition from start to finish.
Our Design Project Manager, Juston began the day showing the students photos of jobs that we have completed in the past. He then went on to explain how our drawing process works: from initial plans by the architect to then turning them into shop drawings and engineering drawings when necessary. Within this conversation, Juston also reviewed some of the main joinery that makes timber framing different from other forms of construction.
We then moved to the shop side of the business where our shop project manager, Cody and our wonderful staff of timber framers gave them a up close look at the artistry of timber framing. They showed them a built example of an engineered truss, and how it related back to what Juston overviewed with the class.
Our team fielded questions from the students and reviewed the built example and the tooling related to timber framing. To end the day, they gave a live demonstration of how to cut and assemble a mortise and tenon joint.
“Your team did an awesome job! It was a great field trip for the students!”
Jeffrey Bates, Building & Construction Instructor
