Charleston, SC Pier Head
Wins 2019 CHBA Prism Award

This stunning project in Charleston, SC won a best New Outdoor Space award at the Charleston Home Builders Association‘s recent Prism Awards. Our low-country team did an awesome job creating the timber structure for this project; and had a great time at the event.

Project Details:

  • Architect: Dufford Young Architects
  • General Contractor: Artis Construction
  • Timber: Bald Cypress
  • Timber Frame Details: The frame boasts a curved hip roof on all 4 sides with the curved hip rafters being carried by diagonal dragon braces at each corner.  On top of the hip and jack rafters there are 2″ purlins that support the cedar shingle roofing, which is exposed from the underside. Mortise and tenon joinery along with concealed steel work together to meet the high wind loading for the area.

Grateful we were part of this terrific project.
Many thanks also to the CHBA for the great fun event
and for choosing us for the award.
